Classes

Youth Open Division

The Youth Open Division classes are designed for new and continuing students wishing to create a more dynamic class schedule or supplement their ballet training with elective classes. Youth Open ballet technique classes offer quality training at an Elementary or Intermediate level of study with a more accommodating schedule. Our instructors are qualified to assess a student’s level in class and to make appropriate recommendations upon request. Students enrolled in one class receive a 50% tuition discount on any additional Youth Open Division class(es).

Classes are available for students ages 8 – 18.  Students are placed in class levels according to their age and level of dance experience.

Youth & Teen Open Ballet

Classical ballet is known for its graceful movements and precise technique, but it can also be great exercise and a forum for artistic expression. Open ballet technique classes offer quality training at an Elementary or Intermediate level of study with a more accommodating schedule.

Youth Modern

Students explore momentum, gravity, and force as they develop freedom of movement, fluidity, and balance. Enhance self-expression, versatility, and strength through this challenging and unique style.

Youth Jazz

Students focus on improving body alignment, isolating body movements, and expanding their movement vocabulary while learning fun choreography set to a wide variety of fun, kid-friendly popular music.

Youth Broadway Jazz

This class blends music, dance, and storytelling as students learn dance combinations from popular Broadway musicals. Explore the fundamentals of jazz technique as you learn valuable performance skills and let your personality shine.

Youth Tap

This class offers classical tap dance technique updated for modern-day guys and dolls! Increase control, coordination, and rhythm with this fusion of dance and percussion.

Hip Hop

Students learn the fundamentals of hip hop set to a soundtrack of kid-friendly music. You don’t need prior experience as long as you are ready to get funky.

Youth Flamenco

Known for its stylized movements and emotional intensity, Flamenco will challenge beginner and experienced dancers alike. Express yourself with this unique and rhythmically complex technique.

Youth Body Conditioning

This class offers a very effective technique designed to develop strength, flexibility, coordination, and endurance. Improve your concentration while you tone your core, back, arms, and legs with this total body exercise regimen.

For students of all ages with special needs. Please contact Louisville Ballet School for customized scheduling to fit your needs.

Boys’ Class

Young Men’s Class

Dress Code

Ballet young ladies wear a solid-colored leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet slippers.  Hair must be kept off the face and neck.  Long hair must be prepared in a neat bun secured with hairpins and hairnet.  Boys and young men wear a tight-fitting white t-shirt or leotard, black or gray tights with dance belt, plain white socks, and black or white full-sole ballet shoes.

Modern ladies wear a solid-colored leotard with pink or black convertible tights and bare feet.  Boys and young men wear a tight-fitting, solid-colored t-shirt, jazz pants with dance belt, and bare feet.

Jazz and Broadway Jazz young ladies wear a solid-colored leotard, leggings or jazz pants, and black jazz shoes with socks or tights.  Boys and young men wear a tight-fitting, solid-colored t-shirt, jazz pants with dance belt, and black jazz shoes with socks.  (No jazz sneakers, please.)

Tap students may wear a solid-colored leotard or a solid-colored t-shirt, jazz pants, and black tap shoes with socks.

Flamenco ladies wear a solid-colored leotard, a long flamenco skirt and shawl, with character shoes.  Additional accessories and dress requirements for young men will be coordinated with the instructor.   Click here for additional information on purchasing a Flamenco skirt.

Hip Hop young ladies wear a solid-colored leotard or a solid-colored t-shirt, jazz pants, and dance sneakers with socks or tights.  Boys and young men wear a solid-colored t-shirt, jazz pants with dance belt, and dance sneakers with socks.  (No shoes that are worn outdoors,please.)

Body Conditioning students wear work-out wear and bare feet.
