LBS October Update!

There is a chill in the air but the studios are heating up!

LBS October Update

Handbook Highlight: Class Attire

The student dress code or uniform maintains the tradition of classical ballet. Therefore, appropriate class attire is required. Please carefully review the following uniform requirements listed for your child’s class level. Students dressed inappropriately for class will not be allowed to participate, but will remain in the studio and observe.

Hair must be kept off the face and neck. Long hair must be prepared in a neat bun secured with hairpins and hairnet prior to class time. Headbands and other hair accessories are to be the same color as the student’s hair or the color of their uniform leotard.

No watches or jewelry may be worn except small earrings. Parents are encouraged to monitor the fit and condition of all dancewear. Leotards, tights, and shoes that are too small or too large can interfere with technique. Severely small shoes can permanently injure a student’s feet, joints and back. Oversized garments and shoes can be dangerous and may cause injury. The instructor must check all shoes before elastics or ribbons are sewn.

Handbook Highlight: Studio Facilities

St. Matthews Studio Facilities: The waiting area at the St. Matthews studio is for the convenience of our families. All children who are not attending class must be accompanied by an adult while in the lobby. Although quiet conversation is welcome, please respect others (including all other organizations using the space) and the classes that are in session. There is to be no running and yelling in the hallways as it is disruptive to classes that are in session. Rough play is also dangerous to the younger children who are not as sure footed and can be hurt – even by accident.  For the safety of our children and guests, this behavior will not be tolerated.

Drop off / Pick up: For the safety and health of the students, street clothing and shoes must be worn over dance clothes when entering and exiting the building.

Peek Week

It is Peek Week – Monday, 10/8 – Saturday, 10/13

Family and friends of our talented students are invited to observe them in class Monday, 10/8 through Saturday, 10/13. This is an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand what your student is learning in class and to support their dedication and hard work! Our instructors will be offering interesting insights into their approaches as well as each class level’s unique challenges and goals..

Please remember to silence all electronic devices before entering the studio. Please refrain from taking photographs or videos during class as it is distracting to dancers. If you would like to take pictures of your dancer, you are welcome to gather in the gallery area with classmates before or after class.

Halloween Costume Week

Students are invited to wear their Halloween Costume to Class! Thursday, 10/25 – Wednesday, 10/31

In order to participate, we ask that you bring $1 to benefit PALS or a canned good to donate to Kentucky Harvest (or both!). When selecting a costume, please be sure that their costume is easy to dance in.  They need to be able wear proper footwear and move freely without an increased risk of tripping.  Students should wear dance clothing (ballet uniform or whatever color matches their costume) underneath their costume.

Students are encouraged to wear their Halloween costume to one of their classes.  If they only come to class once per week, he or she should wear their costume for their regular class.  If they attend more than one class per week, he or she should wear it to their last class of the “costume week”.
