Schedule Changes for the Derby Festival Marathon, 4/19

Please note the schedule changes/ modifications for the Derby Festival Marathon:

Derby Festival Marathon, Saturday, 4/19/2014

  • Adult Advanced Ballet from 9:00 – 10:15 am is canceled

  • Youth Yoga Flow will move to the St. Matthews Studios.

  • Intermediate 2/3/Advanced will have technique class from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at the St. Matthews Studios.

  • Intermediate 1 students should join the Elementary 4 class from 12:00 – 1:30 pm

  • Youth Ensemble rehearsals will move to the St. Matthews Studio.

 

We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your flexibility with the changes to your regular schedule.

Primary Petite Finale, Saturday, May 10th!

Primary Petite Finale is a showcase of our youngest students’ achievements.  This informal showing gives our Dance Together, Creative Movement I & II, and Pre-Ballet students a performance experience, allowing them to share what they have learned throughout the year without the stress and anxiety of a traditional “recital”.  This presentation is made on the final day of the school year and information about performance times will be provided to parents during the Spring Semester.

 

2014 Student Evaluations

Student Evaluations are Monday, April 14th through Saturday, April 26th.

Each student needs to attend at least one of the following classes in their level:

Just a reminder that the Louisville Ballet School’s Spring Break is next week! No classes (for Adults or Youth) will be held during this time.  Our offices will also be closed.

Spring Break: Monday, March 31st – Saturday, April 5th.

We’ll be back on Monday, April 7th, refreshed and excited to dance our way through the end of the school year!

Louisville Ballet School presents Spring Showcase 2014

Don’t be late for this very important date!

 

The Spring Showcase is a main stage feature performance created especially for the students of the Louisville Ballet School.  Performers discover the art of storytelling through dance while sharing in the traditions of the full-length classical ballets. As an important aspect of the training offered at the Louisville Ballet School, all Beginning through Advanced level and Youth Open Division students are invited participate in the annual Spring Showcase.  Showcase dancers attend regular rehearsals in addition to his/her regular classes.  

Alice in Wonderland

Based on the classic fairy tale by Lewis Carroll, our students will dance the story of a curious young girl as she journeys down a rabbit hole and into Wonderland. Fantastic creatures and spectacular adventures await in Amy Delaney’s lighthearted original ballet for family audiences.  Don’t be late for this very important date!

Spring Collection

The Spring Collection features students in a wide range of dance styles offered in the Youth Open Division, including Modern, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Flamenco and Broadway Jazz.  

Louisville Ballet Youth Ensemble Performances

Each performance features both classical and contemporary choreography.  From classical ballet repertoire to world premiere ballets choreographed by Louisville Ballet Company dancers and Louisville Ballet Youth Ensemble members, this program serves to enrich the artistic growth of each young dancer as well as delight audiences.

Family and friends of our talented students are invited to observe them in class Monday, 2/24 through Saturday, 3/1. This is an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand what your student is learning in class and to support their dedication and hard work! Our instructors will offer interesting insights into their approaches as well as each class level’s unique challenges and goals.

Please remember to silence all electronic devices before entering the studio. Please refrain from taking photographs or videos during class as it is distracting to dancers. If you would like to take pictures of your dancer, you are welcome to gather in the gallery area with classmates before or after class.

Teacher Appreciation Week begins on Monday, February 24, 2014. To show your appreciation, PALS is providing healthy snacks for the teachers and staff to enjoy. Please help them with this task and make a donation to this event! Sign Up Today!

Handbook Highlights

Peek Week

Family and friends of our talented students are invited to observe them in class Monday, 2/24 through Saturday, 3/1. This is an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand what your student is learning in class and to support their dedication and hard work! Please remember to silence all electronic devices before entering the studio. Please refrain from taking photographs or videos during class as it is distracting to dancers. If you would like to take pictures of your dancer, you are welcome to gather in the gallery area with classmates before or after class.

Drop Off / Pick Up

Since young children often need to use the restroom or need a parent at a moment’s notice, we would appreciate it if parents could please remain at our studios during classes that are thirty minutes in length.

St. Matthews Location: Parents and guardians will need to walk to the second floor and into our lobby to drop off or pick up their children. All students, regardless of their age and maturity, MUST wait to be picked up by their guardian in the front seating area where our receptionist is located.

Please be punctual when picking up your child after class. Late pick-ups will be charged $10 for any portion of each hour that the parent is late.

For the safety and health of the students, street clothing and shoes must be worn over dance clothes when entering and exiting the building.

Adult Open Division Classes

Show your LOVE for the LBS by attending one of our awesome Adult Division class offerings. Get in shape and have fun while your student is in class!

Spotlight on Ballet Essentials on Monday nights from 6:15 – 7:15pm! 

Learn ballet basics with this introductory class. This is the perfect class for a true Ballet beginner and those who want to refine their knowledge and understanding of ballet terminology, technique and grace.

La Slyphide’s human realm of a small Scottish community meets the spiritual realm of the enchanted forest. A winged sylph (fairy) uses her magical charms to lure James away from his fiancée and through an ethereal and blissful world in pursuit of true but unattainable happiness. The first of the major Romantic ballets, La Sylphide holds true to the ideas of the time floating between the extremes of love and loss.
