The Spring Showcase is a main stage feature performance designed especially for the students of the Louisville Ballet School. Performers discover the art of storytelling through dance while sharing in the traditions of the full-length classical ballets. Showcase dancers attend regular rehearsals in addition to his/her regular classes.
As an important aspect of the training offered at the Louisville Ballet School, all Beginning through Pre-Professional level and Youth Open Division students are invited participate in the annual Spring Showcase. Students who wish to participate must register for the Showcase in addition to their regular technique class(es) to be involved. Although a student may be enrolled in the Spring Showcase, mandatory attendance at Showcase rehearsals is required in order for any student to be allowed to perform.
We are happy to announce that this year’s production will be Thumbelina! Based on Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, our students will dance the story of a tiny girl who dreams of true love in Amy Delaney’s world premiere ballet.
For rehearsal dates and times, please view our Spring Showcase Schedule.
Spring Showcase Parent Packet 2012
The deadline to register for Spring Showcase was Saturday, September 10th. Rehearsals are already underway and costume construction will begin soon, so late registration will not be permitted.
Rehearsals will take place each and every Saturday throughout the Fall and Spring Semesters, and with greater frequency and longer durations as we approach the performance date at the end of March. Participants will be scheduled for rehearsals for all or part of the standard rehearsal time period listed whenever possible. Students will also be asked to attend Saturday afternoon full-run rehearsals in the Spring semester as we integrate the groups to prepare for performance.
Attendance is mandatory. Each participant is allowed one excused absence per semester which must be requested and approved in advance.* Click here to submit a leave request.
*We will make every attempt to schedule rehearsals around the Brown-Forman Nutcracker Children’s Cast rehearsals. Absences for Nutcracker rehearsals will be excused.
The Spring Collection features students in a wide range of dance styles offered in the Youth Open Division. Dancers will learn choreography during class time that will be presented on stage as part of the Spring Showcase performance.
For a listing of performance dates, please view our School Calendar.
Primary Division Demonstrations
Primary Demonstration Day is a showcase of our youngest student’s achievements. This informal showing gives our students a performance experience, allowing them to share what they have learned throughout the year without the stress and anxiety of a traditional “recital”. This presentation is made on the final day of the school year and information about performance times will be provided to parents during the Spring Semester.
