September 11-12, 2009
Choreography by Alun Jones after Marius Petipa, staged by Helen Starr
Music by Ludwig Minkus*
Young love, a faked death, a man obsessed with windmills…sound familiar? It’s not the plot of a new nighttime drama but rather the timeless tale of Don Quixote and two young lovers, Kitri and Basilio. This beautiful story ballet follows Kitri and Basilio through the colorful sights and sounds of Fiesta Day in Barcelona, a gypsy encampment and the local tavern. Chivalry and love win out, of course, with a happy ending for the lovely couple and Don Quixote. The perfect ballet for dance lovers of all ages.
*Performed by the Louisville Orchestra
