Featuring Lila York’s Celts, Adam Hougland’s Cold Virtues and a World Premiere by Amy Seiwert!
“I challenge anyone to emerge from The Kentucky Center after seeing Celts without wishing it had gone on for at least 15 minutes longer.”
- Andrew Adler, The Courier-Journal
As spring draws near, the Louisville Ballet offers a trio of delights: Celts, Cold Virtues and the birth of another world premiere! Critics and audiences alike were enraptured with Lila York’s fun and festive homage to Ireland. Filled with Irish music and nods to traditional Irish dance, Celts is a high-energy feast for all the senses!
This triple bill offers the long-awaited return of Adam Hougland’s first commission for the company, Cold Virtues, which The Courier-Journal called “beautifully bleak, honest in unflinching fashion… Cold Virtues is indeed an icy bit of sly observation.” (October 2003) Hougland creates intriguing perspectives of relationships and their interconnectedness.

Louisville Ballet introduces Amy Seiwert, named one of DANCE magazine’s 25 to Watch, to the region with a World Premiere set to Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G Minor.
Insight into World Premiere from choreographer, Amy Seiwert
“I’ve done alot of solo piano work … but this symphony is HUGE, mammoth – with such energy… the true moment I decided [on it] was New Year’s Eve. I had a gig … with the San Francisco Symphony. Being onstage with those wonderful musicians, hearing them so close … Performing with them, it was astounding. It made me want to use music that was barely contained, that the energy just rolls. Symphonies are more like a storms in nature, explosive and dynamic. I am so excited to take on the challenge of music this huge.
It [the symphony]also has an amazing sense of humor to it. I often feel this way about Mozart … I thought that energy would be a fantastic way to start the evening.”
