Music by Aaron Copland | Choreography by Andrea Schermoly | Conductor: Teddy Abrams | Performed by the Artists of Louisville Orchestra and Louisville Ballet
Part of Louisville Orchestra’s Time for Three: Chelsea Komlisches, New Work (LOCC World Premiere); Mason Bates, Concerto for String Trio; Copland, Appalachian Spring
A celebration of American sound and movement, this program brings together music, dance, and innovation under the baton of Teddy Abrams. The GRAMMY-winning ensemble Time for Three takes the spotlight in Mason Bates’ Concerto for String Trio, a work that fuses classical virtuosity with contemporary energy. “With their staggering technique and freewheeling genre-crossing,” says NPR, “it’s hard not to be swept up in the force of Time for Three’s contagious energy.”
Louisville Ballet joins the Louisville Orchestra for a performance of Copland’s Appalachian Spring featuring original choreography by Andrea Schermoly, a piece that embodies the spirit of renewal, tradition, and vast landscapes. The evening also features a world premiere by Chelsea Komschlies, a new voice from the Louisville Orchestra Creators Corps, whose unexpected textures are both adventurous and affective.
