Louisville, KY (November 8, 2016) – Louisville Ballet is again proud to present its annual holiday treat for the entire family, The Brown-Forman Nutcracker. Generously underwritten by the Brown-Forman Corporation, this production celebrates the magic and beauty of the season by taking audiences on a beautiful journey through the world of the Sugar Plum Fairy, all with distinct Louisville touches. The Brown-Forman Nutcracker runs December 10-22 at The Kentucky Center’s Whitney Hall. The Louisville Orchestra will provide live music for all performances, thanks to generous support from the Brown-Forman Corporation.
As Louisville Ballet’s Artistic and Executive Director, Robert Curran explains, “Louisville has such a strong connection to this holiday tradition and I love being part of that experience, especially since it is such a high-quality production. It is such a pleasure for Louisville Ballet to deliver The Brown-Forman Nutcracker to our community each year. Brown-Forman Corporation’s support for this production is exceptional; I am so grateful for their commitment to this beautiful production and to our company.”
Thanks to the support of Hilliard Lyons, this season Louisville Ballet welcomes back into our studios both Val Caniparoli, Brown-Forman Nutcracker choreographer, and Marshall Magoon, the production’s original magic and illusion designer, as they work together to add new and updated magical effects to this incredible production.
PRODUCTION HISTORY
Louisville Ballet received a generous one million dollar gift from the Brown-Forman Corporation in 2008 to create this beautifully updated production, which premiered in 2009. Choreographed by Val Caniparoli and designed by world-renowned set designer Peter Cazalet, this production celebrates Louisville by including hometown elements like the St. James Fountain and Derby Jockeys. Master illusionist Marshall Magoon created illusions specifically for this ballet that complete the magical experience.

ABOUT THE ARTISTIC & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Trained at The Australian Ballet School and having enjoyed a thrilling and fulfilling career with The Australian Ballet as a Principal Artist, Robert Curran took the passion and discipline he developed as a dancer and set his sights on diversifying his knowledge, skills and abilities. Education and experience continually expanded his ability to move his own body on stage and through this, move an audience through a wide range of emotions.
