Gentle Movement for Adults with Movement Disorders

Louisville Ballet is partnering with Norton Neuroscience Institute and Bellarmine University with a Gentle Movement class focused on adults with movement disorders.*

Classes will support participants in addressing concerns of balance, flexibility, isolation and coordination while building strength, endurance and muscle memory. Classes are designed to promote community and open to participants of all abilities, as no prior dance experience is required to participate. Caregivers, friends and families are welcome to join as a partner. This program combines beginner ballet techniques and social dances in a safe and creative environment for individuals with movement disorders.*

PROGRAM LOCATION: The Louisville Ballet School 4121 Shelbyville Road, Suite 201 Louisville, KY 40207

WINTER SESSION: January 7 – March 27, 2026, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10-11 a.m.
Pre and post testing dates for participants include January 9 and March 27.

COST: FREE!

ELIGIBILITY: Eligible movement disorders include: Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, Huntington’s disease, dystonia and ataxia

RESEARCH: The Bellarmine Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is conducting research with this program that can demonstrate functional improvements such as the ability to stand up from a chair, gait speed, balance and mobility. This research will also include the impact on quality of life as well as satisfaction and value of this program.
