CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTES

ANDREA SCHERMOLY, VIBES

LOUISVILLE BALLET COMPANY ARTISTS DAVID SENTI + LEIGH ANNE ALBRECTA / VIBES BY ANDREA SCHERMOLY / PHOTO BY SAM ENGLISH 2022

This collaboration was proposed by director Robert Curran and I’ve so enjoyed learning, exploring and creating to this style of music. The dancers have been on a freight train of a season and I’m inspired and grateful for their beautiful collaborative, energetic souls throughout this process.

‘Vibes’ is the joined and disjointed funk, rooted in an essence of solo exploration and ultimate togetherness in what is bebop jazz.

It’s also been part of a year that has once again tested the mental strength and physicality of the dancers whilst pushing through Covid restrictions.

Thank you to Robert and to everyone involved in this production. Thank you to my brother Joe Schermoly for his set design, Jesse, Alex, Kim and to Mikelle Bruzina.

Thank you to Dick Sisto and the band for your fabulous tunes and collaboration and thank you to the dancers for being the beautiful artists you are. It has been a pleasure.
