August Update

Louisville Ballet School, Nutcracker No Comments »

It has been a whirlwind start to our 2010-2011 school year!  There is so much exciting news to share!

Spring Showcase

If your student would like to participate in our Spring Showcase Performance, you will need to register separately for Showcase (if  you have not already done so with your class registration).

Please click here to complete the Spring Showcase / Spring Collection Registration form ONLINE!

(You may also complete it online and print it to submit it at one of the studios.)

Rehearsals are scheduled on Saturdays according to class level and the rehearsal schedule is available on our Showcase webpage.  Subsequent rehearsals will be announced pending children’s casting for The Brown-Forman Nutcracker.  We will make every attempt to schedule rehearsals around The Brown-Forman Nutcracker Children’s Cast rehearsals.  Rehearsals will take place sporadically throughout the Fall Semester, and with more frequency in the Spring Semester, especially as we approach the performance date at the end of March.

During our first rehearsals, we will be getting to know the students, preparing for subsequent rehearsals, and starting on some choreography.  Rehearsals for certain class groups will taper off in late October as we approach the busy holiday season and the peak of the Brown-Forman Nutcracker rehearsals.  Students can expect to rehearse just about every Saturday during the Spring semester (with a few weekends off here and there) as we get ready for the big performance!

Brown-Forman Nutcracker Children’s Auditions

Sunday, August 29th at the Downtown Studios

In keeping with our goal to continually strive for a higher standard of excellence in our School, we are so pleased that LBS students have the privilege of auditioning to be involved with the Louisville Ballet’s production of the Brown-Forman Nutcracker.

The absolute deadline to apply to attend the auditions is Thursday, August 26th.  Please click here to download the Audition Application packet to submit to the Downtown Studios.  A detailed schedule of audition times is detailed in the packet.  Please read it carefully.

Your child must arrive promptly 30 minutes before the designated audition time for the particular role(s) for which they are auditioning.  Please check height requirements and measure carefully. Students will be expected to audition for all roles for which they are eligible. Children who are eligible to audition for more than one role and will be auditioning past 11:15 am will be asked to stay in the building to eat lunch. Please send them to the audition with a nutritious and tidy brown bag lunch.   Approximate dismissal times and additional information will be posted on the window at the Main Street Studios.

If you will be attending the auditions this Sunday, please take special note of the road closures for the IronMan Bike Course and Running Course and allow plenty of extra time to arrive to the Downtown Studios.

‘Break a leg’ to all those auditioning!

PALS Parent Association of the Louisville Ballet School

The mission of the Parent Association of the Louisville Ballet School is to encourage and support the students of the Louisville Ballet School in their efforts to learn and grow in their study of dance and appreciation of the arts. PALS members help maintain the outstanding reputation of Louisville Ballet School as a leader in the artistic community while assisting in producing a creative and fun learning atmosphere for their children.

Your PALS membership is now included with your registration fee!  Like all enrichment programs, in order to give our children the best experience possible, it takes time and parent involvement to plan events and activities.  Each month, PALS will be posting a list of volunteering opportunities and supplies needed.

In the immediate future, we would like to request:

  • Hospitality volunteers and donations of refreshments and sweet treats for a bake sale at the Nutcracker auditions this Sunday, August 29th.  Please email pals@louisvilleballet.org if you are interested in helping out or donating goodies!
  • Representatives from each class level to help coordinate various PALS events and initiatives.  We are currently without a PALS coordinator, and would like to ask for a team of coordinators interested in helping to organize and encourage PALS events to be successful and fun!  Please email pals@louisvilleballet.org if you are interested or need additional information about what this may entail.

Thanks so much for helping us kick off a fantastic new school year!

PALS is calling all Dads!

Calling all Dads!

Hey Dads!  We need your help!  I am sure that as any proud father, you want to help your child succeed at all they do.  It is sometimes a challenge to figure out how we as dad’s can fit into the “Ballet” world.  This is our opportunity! Join the team and help make the dream of our brand new studio in St. Matthews a reality.

This 2-part project is to help move sprung wood flooring into the new studio at the Louisville Ballet School in St. Matthews beginning Saturday, July 24, 2010.

Phase 1:  Transport the flooring:

This will take all day, so we can schedule shifts beginning @ 10:00am  – as long as there are enough people throughout the day!  We will be meeting up at the St. Matthews studios at 10:15am and unloading the moving truck and transporting the flooring upstairs to the St. Matthews studios.

How much power can 20 fathers generate?  We need to find out!

The sprung wood flooring is in 39 separate sections that are 4’ x 8’.  It will take at least 4 strong dads to lift each section of flooring.  We need your brawn to help make our dream of this brand new studio a reality.  Uncles, big brothers and friends are all welcome to lend a helping hand as well.  The more volunteers we have the easier it will be on everyone because this floor is heavy!

Phase 2 of the floor project is to install it into the new studio during the week of August 2 – 6, 2010.  This schedule is TBA until the building contractors are finished.  Please send your availability for this week and we will contact you with more details ASAP.

Phase 2:  Install sections of the floor:

1.) Sections will be pieced together like a puzzle and locked into place.

2.) Masonite board will be laid over the entire floor and permanently secured by drilling it into the sprung floor.

Thank you for your much needed support and sweat!  Because of your generous offer to help out on such short notice, we would like to offer you a token of our appreciation.  Every dad, who volunteers for this project will receive a complimentary ticket to an upcoming Louisville Ballet production to accompany your child’s school voucher.  It will be your chance to spend some quality time with your daughter (or son!)…a father/child “date”!

Please RSVP as soon as possible.  You may contact Emily van Bogaert at (502) 583-3150 x245 or Kevin Robinson at (502) 553-6853.  Or email us at school@louisvilleballet.org and pals@insightbb.com.  Just copy and paste both email addresses into the “To” line.

Many thanks,
